SkinPen: An Elite Microneedling Treatment

The revolutionary SkinPen is making microneedling more accessible to people with all skin types!

But if you’ve never had a microneedling session, you’ll want to know what to expect.

Today, we’re discussing all things SkinPen so you can decide if it’s right for you.

What is SkinPen microneedling?

The SkinPen was the first FDA-approved microneedling device on the market. Here’s a closer look at this minimally invasive procedure.

How does a SkinPen treatment work?

The SkinPen device uses tiny, adjustable needles to create microchannels in the skin at a rate of 1,600 per second. These abrasions stimulate collagen production and help minimize acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, as well as age spots and discoloration.

What makes it different from other microneedling treatments?

The needles in the SkinPen device are adjustable, so your skincare specialist can tailor your treatment to your skin’s specific needs. Unlike at-home derma rollers and other devices, the SkinPen can reach deeper layers of your skin, and make a more noticeable improvement in skin texture.

How long will results take to appear?

It can take between four and six weeks to see the results of your first SkinPen session, but some clients notice a difference within seven days. That being said, most users see maximum benefits after three to six treatments.

Depending on the condition of your skin and the changes you hope to make, your specialist can help you form a treatment plan to meet your goals.

How do you get ready for a SkinPen treatment?

Starting a month before your SkinPen session, you’ll want to avoid chemical peels and laser treatments on the area your skincare specialist will focus on. If you’re not already using a daily sunscreen, now is the time to start.

The week before your appointment, avoid waxing or chemical hair removal treatments. Additionally, avoid any medications that may thin your blood, such as aspirin, as these can increase the risk of bruising. You’ll also need to stop using prescription-strength retinols at this point.

In the days leading up to your SkinPen session, you should avoid ibuprofen as well as Botox and dermal fillers. If you’re prone to cold sores, your doctor may recommend an antiviral medication to take before and after your treatment.

Finally, avoid shaving the day before your session. If possible, arrive at your appointment with a clean face free of any makeup, moisturizers, and sunscreen.

The benefits of SkinPen treatments

After your SkinPen treatment, you can begin seeing improvements within one week! Here are some of the top perks to look forward to.

SkinPen treats a variety of skin conditions

SkinPen can improve the appearance of sun damage, age spots, and hyperpigmentation. Additionally, this treatment is highly effective in reducing acne scars as well as fine lines and wrinkles.

Most patients looking to improve their skin texture can see benefits from one or more SkinPen sessions.

Any skin type sees benefits

Since SkinPen utilizes adjustable needles, your treatment specialist can ensure the microchannels are deep enough to improve your skin issues without causing hyperpigmentation that’s common in people with a darker complexion. Those with sensitive skin are also great candidates for this treatment option!

SkinPen is not just for the facial area

While the SkinPen works wonders on facial blemishes, fine lines, and large pores, this microneedling treatment has even more uses! It can help minimize the appearance of stretch marks and other scars anywhere on the body. You can even target crepey skin on your chest, neck, and décolletage. Some people also utilize this technology to stimulate hair growth!

Collagen promotion

SkinPen targets the source of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting the production of collagen and elastin. These naturally occurring proteins diminish as we age, leading to volume loss. Microneedling also encourages your skin cell turnover rate, which contributes to a healthy, youthful glow.

In other words, this microneedling treatment can restore a plump, radiant look to nearly any part of the body.

Very little recovery time

One of the best perks of the SkinPen procedure is that it won’t put you on the sidelines for too long following treatment. You might notice minor side effects like redness and swelling in the days after your session, but that’s how you know it’s working. After all, the whole point is to create controlled inflammation in order to promote collagen production.

You’ll need to avoid applying anything to the treatment area for six to eight hours after your appointment. If possible, avoid wearing makeup for the week following your treatment. If that isn’t an option, stick with mineral makeup without unnecessary additives.

It might be tempting to pick at any dry, flaky skin in the treatment area, but keep your hands off and allow the tissue to heal on its own. It’s also essential to avoid excessive sweating, so stay away from the gym and sauna until your skin is fully healed.

Your treatment specialist will likely give you specific aftercare instructions after your SkinPen session. Follow these as closely as possible to get the best results.
