An Introduction to Nose Filler/Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty

Also known as a non-surgical nose job, nose fillers have the power to transform the look of your face. However, limitations exist, and they aren’t a solution for everyone.

If you’re curious about this procedure, you’re in the right place!

Today, we’re discussing this popular technique so you can decide if it’s right for you.

How does nose filler work?

Liquid rhinoplasty is gaining popularity among people who want to improve the appearance of their face without going under the knife. Here are a few more details on the procedure.

What is the difference between surgical and filler nose jobs?

While both procedures can be performed by rhinoplasty surgeons, that’s where the similarities end.

Surgical nose jobs have many drawbacks. Patients can have concerns about undergoing plastic surgery or extensive downtime while they heal. In contrast, a liquid nose job doesn’t require general anesthesia, and there’s zero recovery time.

The tradeoff is that nose fillers only last between 6 and 24 months, so you’ll eventually need more fillers to maintain your new look. However, nose fillers also have fewer risks, so it isn’t like going under the knife twice a year.

What does the procedure look like?

You’ll start by consulting with your clinical team about your goals and expectations of the procedure. They might take pictures to monitor your progress.

The actual procedure usually begins with applying a topical anesthetic to numb the area. Then, your specialist will inject a dermal filler, such as hyaluronic acid or botulinum toxin, into the areas needed to create your desired result.

That’s it!

This non-surgical process typically takes 45 minutes or less. You might experience bruising and minor pain associated with the procedure, but allergic reactions and major complications are extremely rare.

Who is an ideal candidate for nose filler?

Patients looking to make relatively minor changes are the best candidates for this procedure. Unfortunately, you can’t use dermal fillers to reduce the size of your nose, but by strategically placing fillers in certain areas, your board-certified cosmetic dermatologist or other healthcare provider can sculpt the shape to meet your needs.

Reshaping and adding definition are two of the most common results patients seek.

Reasons to receive a nose filler

The reasons patients seek nose fillers vary from person to person. Some want to correct lifelong issues, while others want to address changes that have taken place over time. Here are some of the biggest reasons patients request a liquid nose job.

Nose fillers fix asymmetry

People with asymmetrical noses can utilize filler treatments to correct their nose’s appearance. By carefully injecting these solutions into strategic spots on your nose, your healthcare provider can balance its appearance, making it look straighter and more symmetrical.

Enhance the tip of your nose

The tip of your nose makes a bigger difference to its overall shape than you might think. For many patients, adding volume and lifting this spot gives them a more youthful appearance.

Bumps on your nose can be hidden with fillers

It’s a common misconception that dermal fillers can’t fix a bumpy bridge. On the contrary, adding injectables to other areas of the nose can even out the bridge and conceal the dorsal hump underneath.

How would you get ready for a nose filler appointment?

Because nose fillers are non-surgical procedures, you won’t have to change much ahead of your appointment. Here are a few things to expect before your liquid rhinoplasty.

Discuss with your medical professional for cosmetic goals

As we mentioned, dermal fillers can’t fix every cosmetic issue. In fact, the biggest mistake is setting unrealistic expectations for your procedure. However, you won’t know what’s possible until you speak with your healthcare provider. They’ve undergone countless hours with a clinical instructor, so they’ve learned what can–and cannot–be achieved with a nonsurgical nose job.

Don’t use any blood thinning medications/products

One change you might need to make leading up to your appointment is to avoid medications that can thin your blood. Of course, don’t stop taking blood thinners that your doctor has prescribed. However, you should avoid pain relievers like aspirin and certain supplements, such as fish oil, Vitamin E, and Omega-3s, the week before your procedure.

These items can increase your risk of bleeding and bruising. If you’re unsure of any medications or supplements you’re taking, you can discuss these with your healthcare provider during your consultation.

Eat food and drink water beforehand

Since you aren’t undergoing surgery, you don’t have to stop eating and drinking before your liquid nose job! In fact, experts recommend drinking plenty of water so you’re well hydrated. It’s also a good idea to avoid alcohol for a day or two before you get fillers. Additionally, be sure to eat a balanced breakfast so you don’t get lightheaded during the procedure.
